Dear Editor,
I wanted to take the time to recognize the Girls’ and Boys’ Basketball teams. Although I am not an avid basketball fan, these teams have won me over this year. From the class attire of the boys on game days to the breakfast provided for the faculty by the girls, these student athletes have made the OGHS faculty proud, both on and off the court. We thoroughly appreciate the efforts the coaches and players have made to involve the faculty and student body. You have my support! Keep up the good work!

Dear Editor,
In your 10/2 edition, Mr. Trey Hardin wrote a letter to make an excellent point regarding the need for an auditorium at OGHS. Our district’s other two high schools added auditoriums last year, and I believe most of the administrators and school board are in full agreement! He referenced the excellent work of our drama, forensics, choir, and band programs. With the growth in Lamar County Schools (+400 last year; +400 this year), the focus of the board has understandably been on building classrooms and facilities that the public was assured by passage of the bond issue. Many admire the fact that so many want to be part of our district. We will be looking at additional classroom space if we continue to grow at this rate. I agree that it’s time for us to find ways to finance a first-rate, fixed seat auditorium at OGHS. Our architect says that we need approximately $5-6 million. In the meantime, I will leave two conceptual blue prints in the library for anyone to view at their convenience. As Mr. Hardin mentions, the vision has been in place for some time. The question only relates to funding. Keep up the great work with “thewarriorbeat” and all the other exceptional accomplishments each of you make at OGHS!
